Special Education Secretary
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED recognized by the SOE.
- Associate degree with coursework in business, word processing, office procedures and record-keeping preferred.
- Successful experience of an increasingly responsible nature in public service and executive administrative assistance or executive secretarial position preferred.
- Proficient computer and typing skills.
Reports To: Special Education Director
Job Goal: To perform those tasks necessary to assure the successful operation of Office of Special Education.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to describe problems and work orally or in writing to supervisor as needed.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted during work.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic computations.
- Ability to use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to problem-solve job-related issues.
- Ability to process paperwork accurately according to standardized procedures.
- Organizational, scheduling, and time management skills.
- Knowledge of office management procedures.
- Ability to use standard office equipment such as personal computer, copy machine, fax machine, telephone, etc.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
- Performs all routine clerical duties such as answer phone, make appointments for the Office of Special Education and handle all correspondence, prepare board material, etc.
- Types project applications, letters, reports, records, purchase orders, communications, and related Special Education Programs activities.
- Assign appropriate codes and labels for items and expenditures.
- Secure Special Education files, reports, orders, documents, etc.
- Assist in verifying grade level, catalog numbers, and prices for purchasing materials and supplies.
- Assist the director in preparing and finalizing projects and amendments.
- Maintains an individual equipment and material inventory for each school-wide/targeted assisted attendance area (school).
- Checks purchase orders against packing slips.
- Secures assistance for distribution of materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Obtains and accounts for all materials and equipment for the Special Education Department
- Operates, enters data and utilizes a computer management system.
- Consult and assist the director with special projects.
- Maintain fiscal information, files, and records for grants and other special revenue funds.
- Performs other job-related tasks as the Special Education Director or Superintendent assigns.
Terms Of Employment: Twelve months basis. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Sumter County Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
